At the time, the area was served by only a single station. Oh dear, oh dear.

7:00AM - "Today"

9:15AM - Test pattern
11:45AM - "The Jonanthan Story"
12:00PM - "Your Children's Safety"
12:15PM - "Love of Life"
12:30PM - "Search for Tomorrow"
12:45PM - "Guiding Light"
1:00PM - "Across the Fence"
1:15PM - "Road of Life"
1:30PM - Film feature ("The Flying Serpent")
2:15PM - "Lou Rocke's Open House"
2:45PM - "Your Children's Safety"
3:00PM - "The Big Payoff"
3:30PM - "Mixing Bowl" (Helen Workman)
4:00PM - "The Brighter Day"
4:15PM - "The Secret Storm"
4:30PM - "On Your Account"
5:00PM - "Polar Bear Playtime"
5:15PM - "Chuckwagon Tales" ("Paroled to Die", probably the late-1930s film)
6:30PM - Newstime (J. A. Sullivan)
6:45PM - "Weatherwise" (S. Hall)
6:50PM - "Sports Digest" (T. Adams)
7:00PM - "You Can Quote Me"
7:45PM - "Industry on Parade"
8:00PM - "Shower of Stars"
9:00PM - "I Love Lucy"
9:30PM - "December Bride"
10:00PM - "Wrestling from Hollywood"
11:00PM - "Final Edition" (B. Mitten)

11:25PM - Sign Off

I realise I post too many posts, but I have a lot of things to post and nowhere else to post them.

Actually, one channel with a handful of interesting programs would be better than a thousand channels with nothing!

Perhaps, but the schedule raises questions.

I mean, what exactly was "Your Children's Safety"?

I looked up "On Your Account", and it is described as a "Strike It Rich"-type program produced by Procter & Gamble Productions. A very brief clip is on YouTube.

"You Can Quote Me" and "Across the Fence", I read, are local shows that are said on Wikipedia to still be running.

The newspaper page which provided the TV listings mentions that "Lou Rocke's Open House" was previously titled "Coffee Time". I know nothing else about the series. I wonder whether it was a local or regional show.

"Your Children's Safety" might have been something like a local policeman or policewoman talking about how kids should stop, look both ways, then safely cross the street, etc. That's how I imagine it.

I can remember a time in the late '50s/early '60s, when local stations in small towns had a lot of their own programming, such as a no-budget, small-scale version of an American Bandstand style music-and-dance show, or a chat show with the town librarian, a school teacher, or the police chief, or a showcase for a community actors theater company or local school groups such as the marching band.

Those kinds of things are now more-or-less available here in the states on "local cable access" channels or whatever, but when you only received only one or perhaps two or three TV station broadcasts back in the day, they were a nice window on your own small town's events. My sister and I were both on a local station when we were young, in a little town in Ohio, and it was a "big deal" to us. Those were quieter, simpler times, when smaller events such as those seemed a bit spectacular to us.

That real shame is that so little exists of 1950s US "local shows". It'd be nice if some more surviving examples might turn up on IA.
